Rajshahi realizes Tk 670.15cr income tax in last fiscal

RAJSHAHI, July 14, 2018 (BSS)- Rajshahi zone has realized income taxes
worth Taka 670.15 crore in last 2017-18 fiscal year up by Taka 82.70 crore
than the previous fiscal.

Of those, collection of taxes in June 2018 was Taka 145 core showing 14.10
percent growth of recovery.

Number of taxpayers has been stood to 2,47,008 in last financial year up
by 27,834 than that of the previous fiscal in the zone consisting with the
districts of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore and Pabna.

Dr Khandakar Ferdous Alam, commissioner of Taxes, told BSS that Taka 587.35
crore income taxes had been realised from 2,19,174 taxpayers in 2016-17
fiscal.

More emphasis was given on proper application and implementation of the
changed income tax law side by side with strong monitoring of the tax curtail
on origin activities. Dr Alam said the efforts helped to attain the success
of tax collection.

He said the number of taxpayers is increasing gradually adding that the
growth rate is significant. To expand the tax network, various motivational
campaigns like spot assessment, survey and rewards for the taxpayers have
been introduced.

Total tax collection in Sonamasjid Land Port has been enhanced by Taka 83
crore than the previous fiscal.

To motivate the taxpayers, diversified programmes like seven-day long
income tax fair, 15-day long decentralised income tax fair, seven-day long
income tax service week and a daylong ‘Rajswa Halkhata’ were arranged.

Three income-tax camps were arranged at Santahar, Chanchkoir and Chatmohar
to disseminate ideas and aspects of paying income taxes among rural people.
Some 369 new taxpayers were identified and taxes of Taka 43.63 lakh were
realized through the camps.

According to the direction issued by the National Board of Revenue, the
taxpayers were given one-stop services coupled with extending help to fill-up
return form in all the programmes.

Apart from, every working day, large numbers of taxpayers are coming to the
help desk opened at the Commissionerate’s office premises directly to know
how they will pay taxes.

“We got significant response from the taxpayers in the tax fairs,” Dr
Ferdous Alam said, adding that main thrust of the fair was to inspire the
taxpayers in paying more income tax spontaneously coupled with generating
more taxpayers.

Income taxes of over Taka 12 crore were collected in the last year’s week-
long tax fair. Around 49,356 taxpayers including 921 new ones received
services and 1.08 lakh returns were submitted. The fair helps lessening the
panic and anxiety among the public in general about the tax payment and
return submission.

Dr Ferdous Alam said the year-round motivational programmes contributed a
lot towards creating public awareness on income taxes besides boosting tax
collection.
