President, PM greet Hindu community on Ratha Yatra

DHAKA, July 13, 2018 (BSS) – President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Ratha Yatra, the chariot festival of Sri Jagannath Dev and a major festival of the Hindu community.

In separate messages on the eve of the religious festival, they wished successes of all programmes.

In his message, President Hamid said the Ratha Yatra is one of the main religious festivals of the Hindu community.

“This festival is being observed here with due respect and religious solemnity from ancient time. Different great human beings have arrived in this world in different ages to remove lawlessness and establish peace. They have made relentless efforts to bring together the world with the spirit of harmony,” the President said.

He also hoped that this Ratha Yatra festival will play an effective role in spreading unity, affection and harmony among people of all religions.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said, “I am delighted to know that the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) is publishing a souvenir on the occasion of the Ratha Yatra”.

She said people of different religions of the country have been performing their respective rituals peacefully for long. “Religious festivals develop kindness among the people. Religion is personal, festival is for all,” she added.

She hoped the Ratha Yatra will play an important role to build mutual trust and amity among people irrespective of castes, creeds and religions.
