Rangpur division ready to launch COVID-19 vaccination

RANGPUR, Feb 6, 2021 (BSS) – The Health Department has completed
all preparation to launch the much awaited coronavirus (COVID-19)
vaccination campaign in all eight districts in Rangpur division in the
first phase from tomorrow (Sunday)

Officials said Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa,
Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali, Chief of Divisional
Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur
Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu, Deputy Commissioner
Md. Asib Ahsan and Civil Surgeon Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy, among others,
are expected to take the vaccines first at Rangpur Medical College
Hospital (RpMCH) tomorrow.

Earlier, covered freezer vans of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited
brought six lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines packed in 50 cartoons to
Civil Surgeon’s offices and those were preserved at the Expanded
Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Stores in the division.

Talking to BSS tonight, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad
Ali said Civil Surgeon’s offices received 50 cartoons of the
Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines in the first phase on January 31 last in
all eight districts of Rangpur division.

After unloading the cartoons from the freezer vans, the district
health department staff led by the Civil Surgeons concerned
immediately stored those in the Ice-Lined Refrigerators (ILR) at the
EPI Stores strictly maintaining the cold chain.

“Each of the 50 cartons contain 1,200 vials with 10 doses in each
vial totaling to six lakh doses,” Dr. Ali said, adding that people
will be immunised using these vaccines in the first phase across
Rangpur division.

In the first phase, the Civil Surgeons have received 2,04,000 doses
of COVID-19 vaccines in 17 cartoons for Rangpur, 96,000 doses in eight
cartons for Dinajpur, 60,000 doses in five cartoons for Kurigram and
36,000 doses in three cartoons for Lalmonirhat districts.

Besides, the Civil Surgeons have received 72,000 doses of COVID-19
vaccines in six cartoons for Gaibandha, 60,000 doses in five cartons
for Nilphamari, 24,000 doses in two cartoons for Panchagarh and 48,000
doses in four cartoons for Thakurgaon districts.

Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy told BSS tonight that
all preparations have been completed to launch the COVID-19
vaccination campaign in Rangpur district from tomorrow.

“We will roll out the vaccination programme at 15 booths including
eight at RpMCH in the city and seven more at each of the other seven
upazila health complexes in the district from tomorrow as per
guidelines of the government,” he said.

“Health workers and volunteers have already been trained to conduct
the vaccination,” he said, adding that vaccines will be given to
health workers, police, freedom fighters, administration officials,
other front-liners and aged citizens on a priority basis.

“We have taken all-out preparations for rolling out the vaccination
programme in due time appropriately as per the government direction,”
the Civil Surgeon added.

Similar reports about preparations on the COVID-19 vaccination
campaign have been received here from Civil Surgeon’s offices of
Dinajpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and
Thakurgaon districts in Rangpur division.
