3rd Bangladesh Film Festival-2021 begins in Kolkata

NEW DELHI, Feb 5, 2021 (BSS) – A five-day long 3rd Bangladesh Film
Festival-2021 began today at Nandan Hall in Kolkata, West Bengal with
much enthusiasm and festivity in presence of popular artistes and
eminent film makers from both the countries.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud opened the festival as the
Chief guest this afternoon when Minister for Science and Technology of
West Bengal Government Bratya Basu and India’s External Affairs
Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla joined the festival as the guest of
honour.

Besides, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran and
noted Film Director of India Gautam Ghosh attended the inaugural
ceremony as special guests with Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in
Kolkata Towfiq Hasan in the chair.

Ministry of Information of Bangladesh with the support of
Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata organized the festival,
in which a total of 32 Bangladeshi feature films will be screened.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Hasan Mahmud called for further
enhancing cultural ties between Bangladesh and India aimed at
establishing proximity between the people of the two friendly nations.

“We have to increase our cultural ties further so that nothing can
create division among the people of the two friendly countries,” he
added.

In this connection, he referred that Bangladesh’s film industry
started its journey through the hands of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman while Bangladesh India joint venture
films are being produced during the tenure of Bangabandhu’s daughter
and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Laying emphasis on enhancing cultural ties between the two
neighbouring countries, the West Bengal Government Minister Bratya
Basu opined that politics should not be mixed with the art and culture
for the development of society.

He paid rich tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying that Bangabandhu was not
only the valuable asset for West Bengal or Bangladesh but he was the
asset of entire world.

Harsh Vardhan Sringla said the Bangladesh and India ties cannot be
severed as it is time-tested and based on shared sacrifice. “Our
relations are based on our shared sacrifice,” he said and underlined
the need for further enhancing people to people contact for the
greater interest of the two friendly nations.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran emphasized the
need for organizing such type of festival in different places across
India to let the new generation know about the cultural heritage of
Bangladesh.

Celebrated Bangladeshi film artistes Jaya Ahsan, Ferdous Ahmed,
Riaz Ahamed, Dilara Hanif Purnima attended the function. However,
India’s eminent film artistes Srijit Mukherjee, Anirban Bhattacharja
and Prosenjeet Chattapadhya, among others, were also present.

The festival began today with the screening of the film- “Hasina: A
Daughter’s Tale”, a film produced by eminent writer Abdul Gaffar
Chowdhury based on the life of Sheikh Hasina, the incumbent Prime
Minister of Bangladesh and daughter of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Other films, which will be screened during the five day long
festival include- ‘Jalaler Golpo’, ‘Krishnopokkho’, ‘Oggatonama’,
‘Rajadhiraj Razzak’, ‘Under Construction’, ‘Debi , ‘Podmo Patar Jol’,
‘Abar Boshonto’, ‘Maya: The Lost Mother’, ‘Na Dorai’, ‘Ankhi O Tar
Bandhura’, ‘Fagun Haway’, ‘Iti Tomari Dhaka’, ‘Bhuban Majhi’ and ‘Pora
Mon’.

Among the films ‘Jalaler Golpo’, ‘Krishnopokkho’, ‘Oggatonama’,
‘Rajadhiraj Razzak’, ‘Ankhi O Tar Bandhura’, ‘Fagun Haway’ and ‘Iti
Tomari Dhaka’ were produced by country’s popular production house
Impress Telefilm.

Earlier, the Information Minister inaugurated an art exhibition
titled ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’ marking the Birth Centenary of
Bangladesh’s founding Father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A total of 100 artworks are being displayed at the exhibition
began at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata.
