5 killed, 2 injured after car rams into truck in India

NEW DELHI, Sept. 28, 2017 (BSS/Xinhua) – At least five people, including a child, were killed and two others injured critically after a car carrying them rammed into a stationary truck Thursday in northern Indian state of Punjab, police said.

The accident took place at Panjgrain village near Kotkapura-Baghapurana road of Faridkot district, about 221 km west of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab.

“In the wee hours today a car rammed into a stationary truck here, killing five people on spot and injuring two others seriously,” a police official posted in Faridkot said. “The injured have been shifted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital.”

The deceased were identified as local residents returning home from
Malerkotla.

Police officials have registered a case and initiated investigations into the deadly accident.

Preliminary investigations by police revealed the car was being rashly driven.

According to an official report released this month on an average India witnessed over 400 deaths in road accidents every day during 2016.

Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
