Govt is struggling to ensure fundamental rights of people : lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 27, 2021 (BSS)-Lawmakers today said the government has taken an initiative of fulfilling the fundamental rights of the people by facilitating housing for 9 lakh poor people throughout the country.

“The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is struggling to realize the fundamental rights recognized as per the constitution,” said Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim while taking part in the general discussion on a thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech in the House.

Lauding the housing facilities for the poor, the treasury bench lawmaker said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken initiative to provide housing facilities to more than 9 lakh poor families which is praiseworthy.

“Already more than 70,000 poor people have been rehabilitated to their own houses constructed and financed by the government which is unprecedented in the history of the world,” said the minister.

Regarding unveiling education facilities for the students, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossen said, the number of primary schools in 2005 was only 37,672 and it has been reached to 65,620 in 2019 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The literacy rate now reaches to 74 percent during the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while it was only 53 percent in 2003 during the government led by BNP and four party alliances, he added.

Participating in the discussion, another treasury bench lawmaker Mujibul Haq of Cumilla-11 said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has donated housing facilities and land to 70,000 poor families on January 23 as per her commitment that ‘no one would be homeless’ which is unprecedented in the history of the world.”

The lawmakers thanked President Abdul Hamid for elaborating the development and progress of the country which have been taken place during the tenure of the present government.

The lawmakers highlighted the successes of the present government in different vital sectors like education, power, agriculture, health, infrastructure development, economyand food production.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul HaqKhan of Jamalpur-2, Enamul Haq of Rajshahi-4, Benzir Ahmed of Dhaka-20, Jahirul HaqBhuiyan Mohon of Narshingdi-3, M NurulAmeen of Chandpur-2,Sheikh Anny Rahmanand Jatiya Party lawmaker Rana Mohammad Sohel of Nilphamari-3, Nazma Akhter of women seat-46,also took part in the discussion.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the successful stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
