COVID-19 cases cross 15,700 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 27, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has crossed the 15,700 mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate continued to decline during the last six consecutive weeks.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,706 in the division with nine more infections reported on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The nine positive cases were diagnosed after testing 184 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division on Tuesday as the daily infection rate is 4.89 percent.

“The daily COVID-19 infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently amid an increasing recovery rate of infected patients during the last six weeks in Rangpur division,” he said.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 1.59 percent on Monday, 5.26 percent on Sunday, 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21 percent on Friday, 7.30 percent on Thursday, 4.97 percent on Wednesday and 3.19 percent on Tuesday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,706 patients stands at 4,004 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 962 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,503 in Thakurgaon, 4,664 in Dinajpur and 1,457 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
Since the beginning, a total of 1,01,357 collected samples were tested in the division till Tuesday, and of them, 15,706 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 15.50 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured COVID-19 patients rose to 14,915 with the recovery of 12 more infected people in the division on Tuesday as the average recovery rate is about 94.96 percent.

The 14,915 recovered patients include 3,610 of Rangpur, 751 of Panchagarh, 1,292 of Nilphamari, 945 of Lalmonirhat, 970 of Kurigram, 1,425 of Thakurgaon, 4,500 of Dinajpur and 1,422 of Gaibandha districts.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali today told BSS that the number of fatalities rose to 303 in the division with one more death reported from Dinajpur on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 303 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 109 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division, he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

“Among the total 15,706 COVID-19 patients, 27 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 14,915 patients and 303 deaths while 461 are remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed satisfaction over the improving trend in the COVID-19 situation in the division in recent times.
