JS body for spreading massive awareness against child marriage

DHAKA, Jan 24, 2021 (BSS) –The Standing Committee on Ministry of Women and Children Affairs today recommended spreading massive awareness against child marriage and ensuring proper enforcement of law on it (child marriage).

A letter should be sent to the ministry concerned for preparation of a report from the standing committee to hold massive campaign to prevent child marriage and ensure proper enforcement of law and presentation of accurate information on child marriage, they said.

They came up with the aforesaid recommendation at the 19th meeting of the standing committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad(JS) Bhaban with Committee Chairman Meher Afroze, MP, in the chair, a press release said here.

Committee members Minister for Women and Children Affairs Ministry Begum Fazilatunnesa Indira, Md Abdul Aziz, Shabnam Jahan and Shahadara Mannan attended it.

The meeting also focused on measures to be taken to prevent child marriage, increase the health awareness of women and children in the ‘Harijan'(Dalit) class, provide health care and ensure children’s education (Phase II) programmes.

Alongside these matters, the meeting also discussed including the creation of employment opportunities for women in Natore region through training and progress in the implementation of the entrepreneur development programme.

The committee recommended sending a summary to the Prime Minister’s Office again with all the updated information of the ‘Kendrio Mohila Purnobason Shangsha’ located in city’s New Eskaton area.

The Shangsha was established by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after independence in 1972.

After the meeting, the committee expressed its condolence on the death of Ayesha Khanam, President of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, and decided to send a condolence message to her bereaved family members.

The meeting was attended by senior secretaries of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Managing Director of Joyeeta Foundation and senior officials of the JS Secretariat.
