Jewel snatches Abahani’s third win in BPL
DHAKA, Jan. 23, 2021 (BSS)- A late goal by midfielder Jewel Rana helped Abahani Limited, Dhaka to earn a hard-fought 1-0 goal victory over the traditional old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society in the third round match of Bangladesh Premier League football held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS).
With this victory, Abahani Limited improved their tally with nine points, equal with league leaders Bashundhara Kings, who also have the nine points from three matches, from three matches while Rahmatganj MFS remained at their previous credit of one point playing the same number of outings.
The match was locked goalless at the breather.
Abahani created pressure over Rahmatganj in the beginning of the match by launching attacks but could not find any goal at the first half. The popular sky blue Dhanmondi ‘outfit’ continued their onslaught after the resumption and this time Jewel Rana made all the difference scoring the decisive goal for Abahani in the 79th minute of the match.
After the goal, it was not possible for Rahmatganj to stage a fight back in the match against the Abahani’s packed defense and they had to leave the field with empty hands.
Abahani will ply their next match against their arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited on January 28 at Shaheed Dhirendranath Stadium in Cumilla after Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society faces Bashundhara Kings on January 27 at BNS.
Earlier, Abahani Limited, Dhaka edged past Bangladesh Police Football Club by 1-0 goal in their league opening match and blanked Brothers Union Club by 2-0 goals in their second match.
On the other hand, Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society split point with Saif Sporting Club playing out to a 1-1 goal draw in their league opening match and lost to Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 0-1 goal in their second league’s match.
