135 landless families get houses in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Jan 23, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 135 landless and homeless families of the district received keys of their new houses as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of ‘Mujib Barsho’.

The homeless and landless families were given the disaster resilient houses to mark the ‘Mujib Borsho’, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in all seven upazilas of the district today.

Deputy Commissioner S M Ferdous formally handed over the keys of the houses to the beneficiaries at a function at his conference room as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally opened the handing over programme today.

The main objective of the initiative is to improve the standard of living of the landless, homeless and distressed people.

As per the commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, all the distressed families will get the disaster resilient houses in the country in phases, the DC said.

District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Md. Awlad Hossain said each of the semi-pucca houses with two bedrooms, one kitchen, one toilet, common space and veranda was built at a cost of Taka 1.71 lakh.

Additional deputy commissioner (Gen) Moniruzzaman, Saturia Upazila Chairman Advocate Abdul Majid Photo, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashraful Alam, District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Md. Awlad Hossain and other government officials were present on the occasion.
