Cold with dense fog disrupts normal life in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 22, 2021 (BSS) – Dense fog along with cold wave largely
has paralyzed life in Chattogram and its adjacent areas causing immense
sufferings to thousands of people.

Chattogram has witnessed intolerable cold with dense fog as cold wave is
sweeping over different parts of the region, said a senior meteorologist at
the district Met Office.

He said the temperature is likely to rise a little bit from Monday. The
lowest temperature was recorded in Chattogram at 12 degree Celsius in city’s
Patenga today.

Moderate to thick fog may occur at places in Chattogram and its adjacent
districts during midnight to morning for the next 24 hours, the sources said.

Many children and elderly people have been suffering badly from various
cold-related diseases, Professor Dr Abbas Uddin of Chattogram Medical College
Hospital told BSS. Street people were seen to light fire to keep themselves
warm as the sun remains invisible in the morning today due to dense fog.

sources said dense fog has disrupted flight operations at the airport today.
Airport sources said the flight schedule of domestic and international
flights has been changed for one to three hours due to dense fogs.

However, Wing Commander Forhad Hossain Khan, Manager of CSAIA, also
informed BSS that two international flights landed at CSAIA as the flights
could not land at Shahjalal International Airport due to dense fog.

Omar Faruk, Secretary of Chattogram Port authority, said due to thick fog
plying of all kinds of ships in port channel remained suspended for two or
three hours in early hours of today.

The port authority was compelled to impose a ban on movements of all
vessels till 9am today to and from Chattogram owing to poor visibility, Radio
control room of Chattogram port sources said.

Railway authorities have issued special warnings to avoid train accidents
due to fog. In addition to setting up an emergency cell, the transport
department has issued official orders to operate the train in light of the
instructions of the transport department staff including the driver, guard
and station master.
