Stocks end week maintain gaining streak

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) today also witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large- cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 8.62 points or 0.15 per cent to settle at 5,836.18. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 0.94 points to finish at 2,208.45 and 4.58 points closing at 1,294.65.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 12.13 billion on the country’s premier bourse which was Taka 14.16 billion.

Gainers took a modest lead over the losers, as out of 360 issues traded, 132 closed green, 143 in the red and 85 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Robi topped the turnover chart, followed by Beximco, Beximco Pharma, Sumit Power and GBB Power.

EPGL was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.90 per cent while Paramount was the worst loser, losing 7.61 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI -advancing 34.06 points to settle at 17,021 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX gaining 21.75 points to close at 10,272.44.

Of the issues traded, 89 advanced, 112 declined and 55 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 1.63 crore shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 58.33 million.
