DHAKA, July 11, 2018 (BSS) – Teachers and staff of Non-Monthly Payment
Order (MPO) educational institutions today called off their hunger strike
responding to a request of eminent citizens, including National Professor
Anisuzzaman.

The teachers and staff under the banner of ‘Federation of Teachers and
Employees of Non-MPO Educational Institutions’ were observing the hunger
strike in front of Jatiya Press Club here since June 25, demanding inclusion
of all government-approved educational institutions under MPO facilities.

They broke the strike by taking water offered by Professor Anisuzzaman.

Director of Campaign for Popular Education Rasheda K Chowdhury and
trustee of Liberation War Museum Sarwar Ali were, among others, present on
the occasion.

Requesting the teachers and staff to call off their hunger strike, Prof
Anisuzzaman said: “I am here as a colleague of you. I think students,
guardians and the country’s people are concern of you. We do not want to see
any loss from your movement.”

Informing that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently gave a speech in
parliament over the issue, he said: “We hope the matter will be resolved
soon.”
