Webinar on ‘Human Rights Protection’ held at DU

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – A webinar titled ‘Governance for
Environmental Human Rights Protection in the Context of Bangladesh: A
Policy Perspective’ held at Dhaka University campus.

Dev Center for Philosophical Studies (DCPS), named after Govinda
Chandra Dev, a former professor of DU Philosophy department who was
assassinated at the onset of the Liberation War by Pakistan Army,
organised the webinar on January 18, said a DU press release.

DU Pro-VC (Academic) also president of the center Dr ASM Maksud
Kamal presided over the webinar while Director of DCPS also Chairman
of the Department of Philosophy Prof Harun Rashid gave the welcome
speech.

Professor of Philosophy department of Jahangirnagar University (JU)
Dr Farid Ahmed presented the keynote speech in the webinar.

Honorary Professor of DU Philosophy department Dr Aminul Islam,
former chairman of the Human Rights Commission Dr Mizanur Rahman,
Professor of DU Psychology department Mahabubur Rahman, Economics
department teacher of JU Professor Anu Muhammad, Professor of JU
philosophy department Md Kamrul Ahsan and Professor Santosh Kumar Pal
from Burdwan University, India attended the webinar.

In the webinar, speakers urged the concerned to take all state level
decisions after ensuring effective discussion and giving highest
priority to the human dignity and rights. “Establishing good
governance, equal distribution and justice will only be possible, if
the human rights are preserved properly,” they added.

Apart from Bangladesh, academicians and students from India and
Australia also took part in the webinar.
