Over 150 houses damaged from heavy rains, winds in Sri Lanka
COLOMBO, July 11, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – Over 150 houses were damaged by
strong winds and heavy rains which lashed out across Sri Lanka’s capital
Colombo on Tuesday, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
Spokesperson of the DMC, Pradeep Kodippili told Xinhua that the sudden
inclement weather had damaged homes in Moratuwa, Dehiwala and Kesbewa.
He warned people in Colombo to vigilant as heavy rains were expected to
continue within the next 24 hours.
Sri Lanka experienced heavy rains and winds in May due to its annual south
western monsoon which killed 19 people and displaced over 150,000.
