Govt working to send back expats to Bahrain: Foreign ministry

DHAKA, Jan 17, 2021 (BSS) – The government is working sincerely to
send back Bangladeshi expatriates to Bahrain those who had returned
home from that Arab nation before outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Bangladesh mission in Bahrain have been maintaining constant
communication with that country’s government in this regard, a foreign
ministry press release said here tonight.

Bangladeshi expatriates, who had returned home before the pandemic
and whose visas have been expired, were previously asked to register
online with the Bangladesh mission in Manama to renew their visas.

However, the release said, only 967 Bangladeshi expats have
registered online while Bangladesh mission have already submitted the
list to Bahrain foreign ministry requesting to consider their cases.

Those who are yet to register online to renew their visas have
still the opportunity to do so, said the release.

During the nine-month general amnesty from April to December 2020,
the Bahrain government have already regularized visas of 30,000
Bangladeshi nationals while there are still 25,000 irregular
Bangladeshis are residing in that country.

Dhaka also urged the Bahrain foreign ministry to regularize rest of
the visas expired irregular Bangladeshi expatriates residing there,
said the release.

The foreign ministry said the Bahrain government didn’t not send
back any Bangladeshi national amid the pandemic but numbers of
Bangladeshi expats had return home voluntarily amid the COVID-19
situation.

The Bahrain government only deported those Bangladeshis who were in
prison on in deportation camps under a general amnesty, it added.

The foreign ministry clarified that repatriation of Bangladeshi
expatriates to Bahrain is the sole prerogative of the government of
that country.
