‘Swadhinata Sarak’ to open soon to strengthen relationship between Bangladesh-India: Tajul

MEHERPUR, Jan 14, 2021 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam today said ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ which will connect Kolkata via Mujibnagar-Nadia will be opened soon to bolster the relationship between the two neighboring countries in the days to come.

“The precondition of the development is communication… In continuation of doing development amid ‘Mujib Year’, the government has taken initiatives to introduce ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ which will connect Kolkata via Mujibnagar-Nadia on the occasion of the 50 years of the independence of the country,” he said.

The minister said this while inspecting ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ in Mujibnagar here.

He said the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to develop the country by taking various pragmatic steps as the precondition of the development is smooth ‘Communication’.

He added that the road (sarak) would strengthen relationship between the two neighboring countries (Bangladesh and India) and also develop the regions concerned.

As the government has taken the initiative to enrich the history and heritage of the liberation war, he said if all the works including immigration, customs check post, road construction are completed, the ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ will become a reality.

Mujibnagar tourist center will also be developed as like Mujibnagar complex here, he said.

He hoped that the ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ with a cost of Taka 1.04 crore would be opened only after widening the roads which are close to it as soling of only 300 meters of bricks on the 1.5 kilometers (km) road from Mujibnagar in Meherpur to Krishnanagar in Nadia (India).

Earlier, the minister Tajul along with State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain landed at Mujibnagar Helipad by helicopter.

After receiving the guard of honor on the Mujibnagar Tourist Motel premises, the two ministers laid wreaths at the Mujibnagar Memorial and paid homage to the martyrs of the liberation war and visited Swadhinata Sarak in Mujibnagar.

The seeds of independence and liberation war were sown in Mujibnagar through this road, said State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain.

To protect the memory of Mujibnagar, the government has taken a plan to open the Swadhinata Sarak and to this end, other departments including customs are working here, he added.

Later, a meeting to review the implementation and progress of ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ (Mujibnagar-Kolkata) was held at Mujibnagar Tourism Motel with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Munsur Alam Khan in the chair.

Both the ministers and Meherpur-2 constituency lawmaker Shahiduzzaman Khokon attended it, among others.
