Vitamin A has no side effect: Health experts

RANGPUR, July 11, 2018 (BSS) – Health experts at an orientation and
planning meeting here have said Vitamin A has no side effect and its intake
reduces death risks of the babies and prevents their night blindness and many
other diseases.

They made these observations today at the event organised by Rangpur City
Corporation (RpCC) at its office to inform journalists about the National
Vitamin A Plus Campaign- 2018 to be held on July 14 in the city as elsewhere
in the country.

With Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair,
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa attended the event as the chief
guest.

Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Abu Musa Mohammad Jongi, its Superintending
Engineer Amdad Hossain, Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz and
Health Inspector Abdul Kaiyum, among others, were present.

The City Mayor said one lakh 28 thousand and 505 under-5 babies would be
administered with Vitamin A Plus Capsule in all 33 wards in the city on
Saturday next.

“Around 666 supervisors, health workers and volunteers will provide Vitamin
A Plus Capsule at 297 outreach centres in the city corporation area,” he
said.

One dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Blue capsule will be administered to
each of 20,300 babies aged between 6 and 11 months and one dose of two lakh
unit Vitamin A Red capsule to each of one lakh eight thousand 250 babies aged
between 12 and 59 months.

Narrating the importance for continuation of Vitamin A supplementation, Dr
Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz said, “Vitamin A Plus can prevent mal-nutritional
blindness especially night blindness, bitot’s spots and corneal lesions.”

The chief guest urged the journalists to create mass public awareness to
make the campaign successful for preventing various diseases of babies to
ensure their healthy growth.
