Bangabandhu kept his promise: Shafiqur Rahman

DHAKA, Jan 9, 2021 (BSS) – Lawmaker Shafiqur Rahman said today that
Bangabandhu had promised that he would give freedom to the Bangali
nation and he kept his promise.

“For this, Bangladesh will celebrate golden jubilee of independence
this year,” he added.

He stated this while addressing a discussion organized by
Bangabandhu Parishad marking the historic Homecoming Day of Father of
the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the National Press
Club here.

The government of India and the Soviet Union had significant
contributions to our liberation war,” he added.

Late Indira Gandhi, the former prime minister of India, visited 37
countries to realize recognition of Bangladesh and return Bangabandhu
to Bangladesh with due respect, Shafiqur Rahman added.

The meeting was chaired by Bangabandhu Parishad Managing Board
Member Mahbub Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikram) and conducted by Member of
Bangabandhu Parishad Managing Committee Matiur Rahman Laltu.

Taking part in the discussion, Bangabandhu Parishad Managing Board
Member Dr. Abdullah Al-Mamun said, Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day is a
day of glory and honor in the history of the Bengali nation.

“On that day, our great independence was consolidated by the return
of the Father of the Nation to his independent sovereign country. If
he had not come back, fulfillers of our freedom would never have come,
he added.

Among others, Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, Dr. Liaquat Hossain Moral,
Khandaker Nazrul Islam, SM Lutfar Rahman, Engineer Mainur Rahman, Dr.
SM Jahangir Alam, Ajit Sarkar, DU Prof Chandranath Poddar, Central,
Metropolitan Leaders of Bangabandhu Parishad also spoke at the
meeting.
