4 bodies recovered in Shitalakhya boat capsize

NARAYANGANJ, July 10,2018 (BSS)- Narayanganj fire service and civil defense rescue team, BIWTA and river police in a joint searching operation today recovered the bodies of four people who went missing after falling off rooftop of a boat in the Shitalakhya river.

The deceased were identified as Din Islam, 35, son of late Kalachan Mia, Md. Joni, 22, son of Md. Fakir Chand, Rahat Ahmed Emon, 22, son of Ramiz Uddin and Anwar Hossain Palan, 45, son of Ziabul Haque, all hailed from Madanganj Islampur in Bandar Upazila.

The bodies were handed over to their families.

The victims were going to Madanganj from Narayanganj central BIWTA ferry ghat by an overloaded boat carrying 30 to 40 passengers.

Suddenly the makeshift shade of the boat collapsed due to overloaded and panic stricken passengers jumped into the river. Many of them swam ashore. But the four victims remained missing since Sunday night at 9.30pm.

Officer-in-charge of Narayanganj river police Newaz Uddin Ahmed told the media that rescue operation is still going on.
