Selectors to decide Mashrafe’s ODI fate

DHAKA, Dec 18, 2020 (BSS)—The selectors will take the final call whether Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will be featured in Bangladesh’s ODI team in next month when the Tigers take on visiting West Indies in a three-match ODI series.

The Caribbean side will also play two Tests in the series.

Mashrafe stepped down from the ODI captaincy earlier this year when Bangladesh played its last International series against Zimbabwe before Covid-19 pandemic forced the cricket to stop.

The lanky pacer is in fact playing only this ODI format.

After that series, his retirement issue came to the fore but the fast bowler expressed his desire to continue cricket.

He of late has returned to the cricket with Bangabandhu T20 Cup after missing the BCB President’s Cup, a one-day format tournament.

In the Bangabandhu T20 Cup he showed he is fit to play at the highest level and also achieved his maiden five-for in T20 cricket.

His fans however believe that Mashrafe has already proved through this tournament that he has enough firepower and has enough to give the Bangladesh team still.

However when his fans demanded his inclusion in the national team, the BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon pushed the ball to the selectors court.

But Papon made it sure that Mashrafe was never out of the consideration.

“It’s tough to say [whether he will be featured in home series against West Indies],” Papon said here today.

“That’s something which is up to the selectors. They will take the final call but he was never out of consideration,” he added.
