Martyred Intellectuals’ Day observed in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 14, 2020 (BSS) – The Martyred Intellectuals’ Day-2020 was observed
in the port city today in a befitting manner paying rich tributes to martyred sons of the soil.

Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations arranged discussions, cultural functions and prayer sessions to pay rich tributes to the country’s golden son and daughters who were killed at the end of the liberation war in 1971.

Besides, district administration, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), freedom fighters, different educational institutions and professional organisations have also taken daylong programmes marking the day.

This year, the programme is being held on a limited scale considering the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

National flags were hoisted at half-mast at all public offices and important institutions marking the day.

Chattogram centres of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes while local dailies published special articles highlighting the significance of the day.

Chattogram city unit of Awami League placed wreaths at local Shaheed Minar in the morning and arranged a discussion at party office situated at Darul Fazal Market.

Chattogram north and south district chapters of Awami League, Bangladesher Communist Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Muktijdder Bijoy Mela Parisad and Bangladesh Islamic Front arranged various programmes, including placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, holding discussion meetings, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils, to observe the day.

Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chattogram Press Club (CPC) leaders placed wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past zero hours today.

CPC President Ali Abbas, CUJ President Mohammad Ali and CPC General Secretary Chowdhury Farid, vice president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist Reaz Haider Choudhury, acting CUJ General Secretary Sabur Shuvo and a number of incumbent and former CUJ and CPC leaders were present there.

Later, a discussion meeting under the joint auspices of CUJ and CPC was held at CPC auditorium in the morning today.

Chattogram District Administration, Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy and Shishu academy organized a discussion and essay competition at the Shishu Academy.

Bangladesh Chhatra League Chattogram city unit today observed the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day.

They arranged a candlelight vigil at the killing ground (Boddho Bhumi) at Pahartali in the morning. Besides, the authorities of Chattogram University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology, University of Science and Technology Chattogram observed the day paying rich tributes to the martyred.
