Rajshahi people paid rich tribute to Martyred Intellectuals

RAJSHAHI, Dec 14, 2020 (BSS) – Various political, socio-cultural and volunteer organizations side by side with educational institutions including Rajshahi University observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day here today paying rich tribute to the martyrs together with conveying deep sympathy to members of the bereaved families.

In observance of the day, multifarious programmes including placing of floral wreaths on Shaheed Minar, photo exhibition, public gathering, discussion meeting and candle enlightening on the mass graves were observed throughout the day.

To mark the Martyred Intellectuals Day, a newly built memorial plaque on the mass-grave site at Shrirampur Bablabon area in Rajshahi city has been opened formally paying rich tribute to the martyrs intellectuals today.

Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, and valiant Freedom Fighters Professor Ruhul Amin Pramanik and Shahjahan Ali Borjahan inaugurated the plaque before large number valiant Freedom Fighters and others concerned.

Rajshahi City Corporation held a discussion meeting at the city bhaban conference hall paying rich tribute to the martyred intellectuals.

On the occasion, the gallantry awarded valiant Freedom Fighters were also accorded reception.

Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the meeting as chief guest, while panel mayor Shariful Islam Babu was in the chair.

The District Administration held a discussion meeting at its conference hall with Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil in the chair to mark the day.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi University observed the day through an elaborate daylong programme, which included placing floral wreaths on Shaheed Minar, discussion meeting, milad mahfil and probhat ferry.

RU VC Prof Abdus Sobhan, Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Jakaria, Registrar Prof Abdul Bari, Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman and other teachers, officers and students placed wreaths at the RU Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours.

Magnificent RU Shaheed Smrity Sangrahashala’ remained open for the visitors marking the day.

Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rajshahi observed the day through almost similar types of programmes separately.
