‘Pledge to build nation on ideals of martyred intellectuals’ – Speakers

KHULNA, Dec 14, 2020 (BSS) – People of all walks of life here today observed the ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ paying rich tributes to the country’s valiant sons and daughters who were killed just on the eve of the final victory on the War of Liberation in 1971 .

The country commemorated the brutal killings of intellectuals, a day before the final victory on December 16 after nine-month bloody struggle against the Pakistani occupation forces with a pledge to build nation on ideals of martyred intellectuals.

Leaders and activists of different political, scores of socio-cultural organizations, government, non-government organizations and educational institutions placed wreaths at the Gallamary Martyred Memorial in the city at early Monday.

The day’s programme began with placing wreaths by Khulna Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Gallamary Martyred Memorial at one minute past 12 pm .

Awami League, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), BNP, Jatiya Party (Ershad), JSD, CPB, Vice-Chancellors of Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Agricultural University (KAU), Khulna District Council, Khulna Divisional Commissioner, Khulna District Administration, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), Deputy Inspector General of police , Khulna Range , Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), Swadhinata Sangbadik Forum, among others, paid homage to the great sons of the country by placing wreaths.

Khulna district administration organized a discussion meeting at DC’s conference room with deputy commissioner Md Helal Hossain in the chair.

Mayor of KCC Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed as chief guest while Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Anwar Hossain Howlader, Additional Commissioner of KMP Sarder Rakibul Islam and Superintendent of Police S M Shafiullah, among others, addressed it.

Khulna City and District units of Awami League (AL) organized a discussion at the party office in the city marking the day where KCC Mayor and city unit AL president Talukder Abdul Khaleque, General Secretary MDA Babul Rana, district unit AL president and general secretary Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid and advocate Sujit Adhikary, among others, addressed.

BNP, Jatiya Party, JSD and CPB, 1971: Genocide, Tortured and Archive Museum, KU, KUET, KCC, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), Mongla Port Authority (MPA), West Zone Power Division Company Ltd (OZOPADICO) and other political and socio-cultural organizations also organized different discussion meetings marking the day.
