BANDARBAN, Sept 21, 2017 (BSS) -At least nine people were killed and 15 others injured when a relief materials-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Bichamara area on Naikhongchhari-Chakala road under Naikhongchhari upazila of the district this morning.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Naikhongchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Sarwar Kamal said the accident occurred around 9am when the truck carrying relief materials of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for Rohingyas fell into the ditch as its driver lost control over the steering.
Nine of the workers travelling on the truck died on the spot, he said. The injured were taken to Naikhongchhari Upazila Health Complex, he added.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has been providing relief materials to Rohingya refugees who have taken shelter in Bandarban, the UNO added.
