PM calls for making more film on war of liberation

DHAKA, July 8, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged the film producers to make more movies based on the War of Liberation, nation’s history and struggle for freedom.

“We have earned independence through long 23 years struggle and nine months of war. So, it’s very important to project the issue through movies,” she said.

The prime minister said this while distributing National Film Award, 2016 at a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here today.

The prime minister said as victorious nation Bangladesh would always live in the world keeping its head high and would not remain lagged behind in any front.

The prime minister urged the film producers and directors to make movies of global standard saying her government would provide all support for development of the film industry.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu presided over the function while president of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Information AKM Rahmat Ullah, State Minister Tarana Halim and Information Secretary Abdul Malek were present as special guests.

This year noted actor Akbar Hossain Pathan, also better known by his screen name Faruk, and actress Farida Akhter, better known by her screen name Babita, were honoured for their life-time achievement, Chanchal Chowdhury was given the award of the best actor while Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Kusum Sikder jointly received the award of the best actress.

Amitab Reza Chowdhury was selected as the best film director while Faridur Reza Sagor was picked up as the best producer.

Sheikh Hasina said, “Film is a powerful media where we get a clear projection of our life. Film plays a great role in social reformation and motivating people for development.”

Though people once turned them away from the local film industry but now they’re coming back again because of some better production in recent years, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman laid the foundation of the film industry of Bangladesh and founded the Film Development Corporation (BFDC).

Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu wanted the film makers of Bangladesh to promote Bengali culture and produce movies to guide people to the right direction and spreading Bengali culture all over the world.

The award winners took photographs with the prime minister. Later, the prime minister enjoyed a cultural program presented by the noted artistes and cultural tropes.
