World Cup final is within Team Croatia’s reach – captain
SOCHI, July 8, 2018 (BSS/TASS)-Team Croatia is capable of defeating England
to reach the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, team captain Luka
Modric told reporters on Sunday.
The Croatian national football team entered the semifinals of the 2018 FIFA
World Cup knocking out hosts Russia in the quarterfinals match on Saturday
night in Sochi with the 4-3 penalty shootout win following 2-2 draw in the
regular and 30-minute overtime period.
Earlier in the day, Team England also cleared the quarterfinal round of the
2018 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win over Sweden and is now set to meet Croatia
at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on July 11.
“After 20 years, we are in the World Cup semifinal again. We weren’t
particularly lucky during the European Championship and other major
international tournaments. Right now, we are making up for that. I hope that
we will be able to proceed to the final, we have everything we need for
that,” Modric said.
Commenting on the upcoming game against England, Modric said: “The game
will be tough and intense, just like any other game at this tournament. We
have less than a day to recover, but I’m sure that we will be well-prepared.”
“We watched their game against Sweden. England is good at set-play
techniques, and this is what we should pay our attention to,” he added.
