Int’l symposium marking Bangabandhu’s birth centenary held at DU

DHAKA, Dec 8, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka University Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning held a virtual international symposium titled ‘Teaching and Learning in Higher Education’ marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the symposium as the chief guest on December 6, said a press release here today.

Professor Emeritus of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand Janinka Greenwood presented keynote speech at the symposium while Director of the Arena Center of University College of London, the UK Sam Smith and Professor of Educational Development Simon Walker discussed on the keynote speech.

Various important topics were discussed in the symposium including ‘University Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century: Criticality and Challenges’, and ‘Addressing the challenges of teaching and learning in the time of COVID-19 ‘.

In his speech, Dr Akhtaruzzaman said that such type of international symposium would play an important and significant role in enhancing the quality of education and professional skills of teachers and researchers. He thanked the CoETL for organizing the symposium.

Other speakers at the symposium focused mainly on the radical changes in the education system, role of educational institutions and responsibilities of teachers to meet the challenges of online education centering COVID-19 crisis.

Many teachers, scholars, researchers and students from home and abroad participated at the symposium. British Council of Bangladesh was the partner in planning and organizing this International Symposium.

The director of Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning Prof Dr Sabita Rizwana Rahman and Additional Director ATM Samshuzzoha addressed the program, among others.
