Nasim orders action against three doctors of Max Hospital

DHAKA, July 8, 2018 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed
Nasim today asked Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) to take stern
actions against three doctors of Max Hospital over the tragic death of Rafia,
daughter of a journalist.

“Please take a tough action against the three doctors who were
responsible for the tragic death of that minor girl Raifa,” he gave the
directive to the BMDC while presiding over a meeting at his ministry’s
conference room.

The three accused doctors are Dr Debashish Sengupta, Dr Shuvra Deb and
Child specialist Bidhan Roy Chowdhury.

Nasim gave the directive following two separate investigation reports of
Directorate General of Health Services (DGSH) and Chattogram Civil Surgeon
respectively that made negligence of physicians of the hospital responsible
for the death of the minor girl.

He also asked the hospital to correct all irregularities regarding
license within 15 days.

The minister also urged the health directorate to set a signboard with
hotline numbers so that general people can make complaints against the
irregularities of all private and public hospitals and other health
complexes.

Earlier, on July 5, the two physicians Dr Debashish Sengupta and Dr
Shuvra Deb of the hospital were sacked over the death of the girl.

Raifa Khan, 3, daughter of Rubel Khan, staff reporter of Daily Samakal,
died due to ‘wrong treatment’ at the private hospital in the port city in the
early morning of June 29.

President Dr M Shahidullah, Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (Swachip)
President Professor Dr Iqbal Arslan, Pro Vice Chancellor (Admin) of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Professor Dr M Sharfuddin
Ahmed and Chattagram Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Azizur Rahman were present at
the meeting.
