Social movement to end violence against women and children is stressed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Nov 30, 2020 (BSS)- Speakers at a discussion held here today said forging social resistance and waging for movement to end violence against women and children have become an urgent need for building themselves as worthy citizens, .

“All people should raise their voice and work together to address the social problem collectively as only the government or any other single organisation cannot bring any positive result in this regard” the observed .

The discussants came up with the observation while addressing the meeting to mark the International Women Repression Prevention Day- 2020 at of Collectorate Building premises.

District Administration and the Department of Women Affairs jointly organized the meeting largely attended by leaders and activists of various non-government development organizations and stakeholders.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Shirin Sobnom and local unit chairman of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Morjina Parveen, among others, addressed the meeting.

Terming the child marriage as the major violence and gross violation of human rights Abdul Jalil said there is no alternative to check it

“We need to establish social networks and alliances involving government and non-government organisations, community people, civil society and media to attain the cherished goal,” he added.

He, however, called for strengthening legal assistance and effective enforcement of laws regarding women repression to eliminate the number of violence against women.

“Social awareness and social empowerment of women could reduce the number of such victims to a greater extent,” he added.
