DHAKA, Sept 20, 2017 (BSS) – The Republic of Korea will provide $1.5m
humanitarian aid as part of emergency relief operation for the Rohingya people, who took shelter in Bangladesh following persecution by Myanmar army in Rakhine state.

The donation will be given through International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on behalf of Korean government, Korean ambassador to Bangladesh Ahn Seong-doo said here today.

The envoy hoped that the assistance would contribute to lessening the suffering of refugees who recently fled in the wake of the latest violence in the Rakhine state and improving their living conditions, said a Korean embassy press release.

It, however, said the Republic of Korea has expressed deep concerns over the latest violence in the Rahkine state and the ensuing influx of refugees into Bangladesh.

The Republic of Korea has also made clear its support for all the
international efforts, including Bangladesh’s, to help the refugees.

It said the Korean government would continue to closely cooperate with the international community, including Bangladesh and the Myanmar government, to solve the issue.
