Bangladesh eve thrash PNG by eight wickets

DHAKA, July 7, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh women cricketers continued their good work as they hardly had to sweat recording an overwhelming eight wickets victory over Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the Group A qualifying match of the Women’s World T20 tie held at Amstalveen in Holland on Saturday.

Bangladesh won the toss and invited their rivals PNG to bat first. Against some very tight bowling, PNG batters hardly could take full control of the proceedings as they struggled to reach 86 for six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

PNG’s number seven batter V Frank top scored with 27, Ruma was next successful PNG batter with unbeaten 25 and K John with 15 was this three batters, who could reached double figure mark.

Panna Ghosh was the leading Bangladesh bowler with two wickets for 15. Fahima Khatun 1/10, Rumana Ahmed 1/12, Salma Khatun 1/12 and Jahanara Alam with 1/16 were the other wicket takers for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh literally strolled to their target without much sweat as they scored 86 runs for the loss of only two wickets in 14.5 overs.

Ayasha Rahman was the first one to depart as she scored 17 off 15 with two boundaries.

Shamima Sultana was the leading Bangladesh batter with 35 off 36 ball studded with five boundaries.

Farzana Hoque with 17 and Nigar Sultana with 11 were the two unbeaten Bangladesh batters when they reached their winning target.

P Saika and V Araa captured one wicket each for PNG.

In the World T20 Qualifier meet, Bangladesh is placed in Pool A alongside Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Netherlands and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Bangladesh take on host the Netherlands on July 8 and play their final group match against UAE on July 10.

The top two teams from the eight-nation Qualifiers event will join Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and hosts West Indies in the tournament, scheduled to be staged from November 9-25 in the Caribbean.
