Death of newborn twins: HC appoints 4 amicus curiae

DHAKA, Nov 25, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court today sought expert
opinion from four amice curiae (friends of court) on legal and medical
matters in a rule issued in the case over refusal of three hospitals
to give treatment to newborn twins and their death.

The amicus curiae are: lawyer Z I Khan Panna, Lawyer Manzil
Morshed, Lawyer Shahdin Malik and a Senior Pediatrician of Dhaka
Medical College Hospital.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Mohammad Nazrul
Islam Talkudar and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order after
submitting explanatory reports of the three hospitals.

The next hearing on the case will be held on January 18.

Earlier, explanations on behalf of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical
University (BSMMU), Dhaka Shishu Hospital and Mugda Islami Bank
Hospital were placed in the High Court.

On November 2, the HC bench sought explanations from the
authorities concerned of the three hospitals about the deaths of the
newborn twins.
