Purchase Committee approves proposal for procuring fuel oil through Int’l quotation

DHAKA, Nov 25, 2020 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved a proposal for procuring gas oil (diesel), Jet A-1, furnace oil, mogas (octane) and marine fuel for the January-June period of the next year with a cost of Taka 3,583.50 crore.

The approval came from the 32nd meeting of the CCGP in the current year held virtually with Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal informed that Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) would procure fuel oil for six months in next year from Unipay Singapore Private Limited, Singapore and Vital Asia Private Limited, Singapore.

Saleh said that the Industries Ministry would procure 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO, Bangladesh for the current fiscal year (FY21) with a cost of around Taka 63.58 crore.

Besides, two separate proposals for procuring fertilizer were also approved in the day’s meeting under which the Industries Ministry will procure 25,000 metric tons of bulk granular (optional) urea fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) in the current fiscal year (FY21) with around Taka 55.69 crore while another 25,000 metric tons of bulk prield (optional) urea fertilizer will be procured from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat), Q.P.J.S.C. Qatar in the current fiscal year with around Taka 55.58 crore.

Saleh said the meeting approved a proposal for procuring conductor, ACSR and Bare from Meghna Star Cables and Electrical Appliances Ltd under the Lot 1 of package No DNE (W)-G-48 to be implemented under the project titled “Expansion of distribution network for cent percent Rural Electrification (Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal Divisions), 1st revised” with around Taka 69.69 crore.

He said another proposal from the Power Division for procuring 600V conductor and insulated from M/S Rangpur Metal Industries Limited under the Lot No 3 of package No DNE (W) G-48 to be implemented under the project titled “Expansion of distribution network for cent percent Rural Electrification (Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal Divisions), 1st revised” got approval in the CCGP meeting with around Taka 46.11 crore.

The Cabinet Division Additional Secretary said the CCGP meeting also gave nod to another proposal from the Power Division to procure 11 KV and 33 KV underground cable from Poly Cable Industries Ltd under Lot 3 of package No DNE (W) -G-31 under the same project titled “Expansion of distribution network for cent percent Rural Electrification (Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal Divisions), 1st revised” with Taka 20.60 crore.

Apart from this, another proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division to print, binding and supplying 4,65,535 free text books at secondary level (Bangla and English versions), Ebtedaye and Dakhil stage for the next academic year by the Simanto Press and Publications Limited was also approved at a cost of Taka 51,05,122.

Meanwhile, the meeting on Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was held today virtually with Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmood in the chair.

Saleh said the meeting approved three proposals in principle for following the Direct Procurement Method (DPM).

Under the first proposal from the Ministry of Food, around 3 lakh household silos will be procured under the project for supplying household silos for conserving safe food for the poor, lagging behind small ethnic groups and people from disaster-prone areas of the country.

Under the 2nd proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division, some 1,000 metric tons of printing paper will be procured as buffer for printing free textbooks for distributing those at the secondary level (Bangla Version) for the 2021 academic year.

Besides, another proposal from the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division for accomplishing the public works of three sites under the project titled “Palli Janapad”, a cooperatives-based multi-storey project having all modern civic facilities to improve the living standard of rural communities, got retrospective approval. The three project sites are in Gopalganj, Bogura and Rangpur.
