63 people with special needs get wheelchairs in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Nov 25, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 63 physically challenged people were given wheelchairs for making them self-reliant through removing their mobility problem.

Besides, six other hear-impaired persons were given hearing aids.

District Administration distributed the devices at its mini conference hall today on behalf of the National Disabled Development Foundation.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Jalil, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Hasina Momtaj and Disabled Affairs Officer Muhammad Shariatullah were present at the distribution ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Jalil said the people with special needs should be given some additional privileges for their proper rehabilitation and family integration.

He viewed holistic and collective efforts of both the public and private organisations have become an urgent need for ensuring their fundamental rights which are keys to their social dignity.

Terming the challenged people as an integral part of the society, he put emphasis on mainstreaming them through creating a friendly atmosphere for people with disabilities. The physically challenged people should never be judged as a burden on society.

DC Jalil, however, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking forward the country by uniting people of all classes and professions.

Under her successful leadership, he said, after achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Bangladesh is moving fast towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He called upon the people to strengthen Sheikh Hasina’s hand in realizing Bangabandhu’s dream, development and progress of the country.
