Belgium beat Brazil 2-1 to reach semi-finals

DHAKA, July 07, 2018 (BSS) – Finally the biggest upset of this  FIFA World Cup 2018 happened, as former World Champions Brazil had to bid adieu from this meet, as dark horse Belgium barged into semifinals with a  nerve wrecking 2-1 goals victory  over Brazil in the quarterfinal match held in the early hour of the Saturday at Kazan Arena in Russia.

Almost against the run of play, Belgium went ahead in a bizarre manner when Brazilian defender Fernandinho scored an own goal from a corner to give Belgium 1-0 lead in the 13th minutes of the match.

Talented K De Bruyne made it 2-0 for Belgium in 31st minutes of the play with a fierce shot.

The match saw Brazil players squandered at least  a dozen clear cut opportunities, only substitute  Augusto gave Brazil a glimmer of hope with a header in the 76th minutes of the play (1-2).

Belgium led by goalkeeper Courtois frustrated Brazilian supporters with simply an extraordinary performance under the bar with innumerable saves.

Belgium who beat Japan 3-2 in the round of 16, will be meeting France who earlier beat Uruguay 2-0 in the day,  in the semifinal scheduled to be played on July 10 at Saint Petersburg stadium.
