Speakers for forging unity to combat NCDs

DHAKA, July 6, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a meeting have urged all to be
united to face the challenges of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the
world, said a press release here today.

President of the Health Committee for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)
Professor Dr M Habibe Millat, MP, UNGA president Miroslav Laj?ák, Chief
Executive Officer of the Global Campaign for Mental Health Elisha London,
Senior Vice President of Viral Strategies Professor Adam Karpati and Deputy-
Director of National Diabetes of Sri Lanka Chamari Warnapura attended the
meeting.

Assistant Director General for NCDs and Mental Health Svetlana Axelrod
moderated the programme.

They made the request at a preparatory conference of the third High-level
Meeting on the prevention and control of NCDs, which will be held in
September, 2018.

The United Nations General Assembly would organise the meeting, which will
undertake a comprehensive review of the global and national progress achieved
in putting measures in place that protect people from dying too young from
heart and lung diseases, cancers and diabetes.
