DHAKA, Sept 12, 2017 (BSS) – Heads of diplomatic missions in Dhaka will visit Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar tomorrow to see the condition of Rohingyas, who flooded into Bangladesh, fleeing violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
“They will see for themselves the challenges and humanitarian crisis Bangladesh is facing due to the influx of over 300,000 Rohingyas from Myanmar,” Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told media after a diplomatic briefing here yesterday.
The government is organizing the visit of all ambassadors, high commissioners and charge d’affaires stationed in Dhaka following exodus of Rohingya Muslims to Bangladesh.
The envoys will be flown to Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka as Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will lead the tour, foreign ministry sources said.
The foreign diplomats are expected to visit the Kutupalang Rohingya camp in Ukhia and will talk to Rohingya Muslims, who took shelter in the camps.
According to UN reports, some 370,000 Rohingya have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh since an upsurge in violence late last month.
Apart from this, Bangladesh has given shelter to nearly 500,000 Rohingya refugees over the decades.
