Revenue collection witnesses a 19pc growth in FY18: NBR

DHAKA, July 5, 2018 (BSS)-National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md
Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said revenue collected witnessed a 19 percent
growth in the fiscal year 2017-18 (FY18) compared to that of the fiscal year
2016-17 (FY17).

“We will release the final figure of the revenue collection in FY18
after examining the amounts deposited in the treasury. As per a rough
estimation the revenue collection rose by 19 percent in FY18,” he said while
speaking at the opening ceremony of a workshop here.

NBR collected Taka 1.85 lakh crore in revenue in FY17.

Bangladesh Tax Training Institute (BTTI) organized the two-day workshop
on revenue policy with its chief adviser Shayamol Kanti Ghoshe in the chair.
ADR facilitator Syed Aminul Karim, NBR (VAT) member Sultan Md Iqbal, member
(income tax) Zia Uddin Mahmud and member (customs policy) Firoz Shah Alam
attended the opening session.

The NBR chairman said local industries have been given protection in the
current budget (FY19) to increase productivity.

He said the NBR has a plan to reform revenue policy. NBR will take
conscious steps to reform the revenue policy as it is the election year and
the last year of the present government, he added.

“We are in favour of taking up long-term revenue policy because quick
shift in such policy affects foreign investments,” he added.
