Bangabandhu National Youth Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2020 (BSS) – The ‘Bangabandhu National Youth Day 2020’ will be observed tomorrow through various programmes across the country.

With the aim of building ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu and keeping in mind the creativity, self-confidence and enthusiasm of the youth, this year’s theme of the day is ‘Mujib Borsho er Ahoban, Jubo Karmasangsthan’.

Earlier, State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell said that the inaugural function of the day will be held on November 1 at 10.00 am at Ganabhaban and Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

The day will be celebrated through various programmes across the country and in the ongoing situation of COVID-19, it has been decided to organize all the programmes of this year’s Youth Day on a limited scale following proper health rules.

On the eve of the day, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages greeting the country’s youth society and wished all programmes of the day a success.

In a message, President M Abdul Hamid said “The larger part of the country’s population is youth. The trend of numerical abundance of youth will continue till 2043.”

The youths should be built as human beings with moral values and the expertise of information technologies, education, culture and sports to utilize the demographic dividend, he added.

The President underscored the need for ensuring inclusive, peaceful, equitable and impermeable development for the youths to achieve the targets of transforming the country into a developed one by 2041 and United Nations (UN) declared Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the country has achieved independence under the glorious leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The father of the nation had taken all possible steps to rebuild the war-torn newly independent country, the premier said, adding that he trained youths for their betterment as well as for the reconstruction of the country.

The present Awami League led government has been implementing various projects and youth programmes across the country to involve the youth in the mainstream of development, she added.

In order to turn the youth into skilled human resources, various technical, vocational and agricultural multi-faceted trainings including information technology are being provided, she said, adding that arrangements have been made for their self-employment with youth loans and as skilled manpower, the employment of the youth has also increased in foreign counties.

She said the government has formulated the ‘Youth Welfare Fund Act, 2016’ under which so far 12 crore 235 youth organizations have been given grants of Tk 17 crore 85 lakh 46 thousand.

The action plan has been published with the formulation of ‘National Youth Policy, 2017’ and the Youth Index has been prepared. she added.

She said in order to involve the voluntary youth organizations in socio-economic development and public awareness activities, the Youth Organizations (Registration and Management) Act, 2015 and the Youth Organizations (Registration and Management) Rules, 2017 have been formulated.

Considering the pledge as promised in the Awami League government’s election manifesto that ‘Power of Youth, Prosperity of Bangladesh’, a plan has been taken to set up youth training and entertainment centers in every upazila.

The Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Youth Development has been set up at Savar, Dhaka as a center of excellence, through which youth training, research and higher degrees will be imparted, she continued.
