Magura people erupt in joy on Shakib’s return to cricket

DHAKA, Oct 29, 2020 (BSS)—As Shakib Al Hasan’s ban came to an end, the people of his own district Magura erupted in joy. On Wednesday night, when the ICC-imposed one-year ban was lifted, the people celebrated the night with festivities, joyous processions, and distribution of sweets.

From today, there will be no obstacle for Shakib to enter the field and Bangladesh will get him again in the team. The people of Magura however left no stone unturned to mark the day with a lot of festivities. Shakib’s father Masroor Reza Kutil joined the procession to give this a different touch.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Bangladesh’s then captain Shakib Al Hasan from all cricket for two years, with one year of that suspended, after he accepted three charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code last year.

One of the three changes was his failure to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct – in relation to the Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe Tri-Series in January 2018 and the 2018 IPL

His another failure was to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct – in relation to a second approach in respect of the Tri-Series in January 2018

He also failed to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct – in relation to an IPL 2018 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Kings XI Punjab on April 26, 2018.

Under the provisions of the Code, Shakib chose to admit the charges and agreed the sanction with the ICC in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing.

Subject to him satisfying the conditions in respect of the suspended part of the sanction, he was free to resume international cricket on October 29, 2020.

On the news of Shakib’s return to cricket ground, his fans danced and sang in the streets of the Magura city on Wednesday night. Besides, the fans fed sweets to the people of Magura.

City cricket lover Monirul said, “Shakib means Bangladesh, Shakib means victory. Bangladesh team has suffered a lot due to the absence of Shakib. So we applaud Shakib’s return to cricket.”

Shakib’s father Mashroor Reza Kutil said, “Shakib has been out of the Bangladesh team for so long. His ban came to an end and so Shakib fans are very happy. Everyone is rejoicing in this happiness. I have fed sweets to Shakib fans. Everyone will pray for Shakib. May he play well in the days to come.”
