President for enhancing mutual cooperation with Philippines

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today stressed
on enhancing mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and the Philippines
in the field of nursing and agriculture as the outgoing ambassador of
the Philippines to Bangladesh, Vicente Vivencio T Bandillo, called on
him at Bangabhaban here today.

Referring to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU)
between Bangladesh and the Philippines on enhancing cooperation in the
field of nursing and agriculture, the President said, “It will further
enhance mutual cooperation and benefit both the countries in the days
to come,”

During the meeting, the President said Bangladesh is maintaining an
excellent relation with the Philippines while the outgoing envoy
thanked him for his overall cooperation during his tenure in
Bangladesh, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

He recalled the support of the Philippines in different crucial
issues and said, “The Philippines is one of the first countries to
recognize Bangladesh after independence. The Philippines has also
played a significant role in getting Bangladesh’s membership in the
United Nations.”

About the Rohingya repatriation issue, Abdul Hamid hoped that the
Philippines would play a strong role in the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations (ASEAN) for Bangladesh and repatriation of Rohingyas to
their Rakhine state homeland.

The President said Bangladesh produces a variety of world class
products including readymade garments (RMG) and medicines, and the
prices of these products are also comparatively cheaper than other
countries.

“The Philippines can get benefit by importing all these products,”
the President added.

He thanked the Philippine government for its assistance in
recovering the lost money from Bangladesh Bank and hoped that the
Philippines government would continue its cooperation in recovering
the remaining lost funds.

The President thanked the outgoing Filipino ambassador for his
successful completion his assignment here.

Secretaries concerned and foreign ministry senior officials were
present on the occasion.
