Puja ends with immersion of Goddess Durga’s in Khulna

Khulna, Oct 27, 2020 (BSS) – The five-day celebrations of Durga Puja, the sacred festival of the Bengalese Hindu ended in the city as elsewhere in the district through immersion of the idols yesterday

The Hindus celebrated Durga Puja this time amid traditional enthusiasm and festivity through performing rituals at record number of puja mandaps in the city and district with the participation of thousands of devotees.

The Khulna city and district unit Puja Udjapon Parishad carrying idols of Devi Durga, other God and Goddesses on trucks and pick-ups for immersions into the rivers without any procession due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Earlier, hundreds of female devotees thronged puja mandaps on the Bijoya Dashami to have last glimpse at Goddess Durga and seek her blessings for the nation and whole mankind by putting ‘sindur’ (vermilion) and offering sweets .

A record number of 978 puja mandaps were erected this time in the city and district and the government distributed around 500 tons of rice among mandaps authorities to assist the Hindu community people in celebrating the festival.

The law enforcers, who were on duty round the clock over the last five days, were seen guarding yesterday’s Shuvo Bijoya Dashami , the day for immersion of Devi Durga and other idols since the afternoon.
