Stolen newborn rescued, 4 arrested

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2020 (BSS) – Police rescued a newborn baby, who was stolen from the hospital right after his birth, and arrested four women in this connection in the capital.

The arrestees are Kamrun Nahar Munni, 40, Runa, 35, Rowshan Ara, 50, and Afsana Begum, 45, a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release said today.

“Rabeya Afsana got admitted to Ginome Hospital in Jurain area under Kadamtali Police Station on October 18 and gave birth to a baby boy on that night. But the baby got stolen from the hospital right after his birth. The devastated mother filed a complaint on October 21 with our police station,” Kadamtali Police Station officer in-charge Md Jamal Uddin Mir said.

The OC said the police promptly arrested Kamrun Nahar Munni, who helped Rabeya to get admitted to that hospital and after that arrested the other three one by one. Police arrested Afsana Begum on the night of October 22 and rescued the baby from her possession.

All the arrestees have confessed to their involvement in the heinous crime in the primary interrogation. A case was filed with Kadamtali Police Station in this regard under human trafficking prevention act.
