Integrated efforts to face Covid-19 pandemic stressed

RAJSHAHI, Oct 23, 2020 (BSS) – Integrated efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned have become an urgent need to face the adverse impacts being triggered by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic situation.

Local government institutions, members of the civil societies and media actors should come forward and work together side by side with the civil administrations as the government is pledged-bound to cope with the fallout situation.

Members of the civil society, government officials, professional leaders, development activists and social watchdogs came up with the observations while taking part in an online advocacy meeting on Thursday.

Light House, an NGO, hosted the meeting styled “Covid-19 Response towards Marginal People at Rajshahi District” in association with Counterpart International with financial support from USAID and UKaid.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nurul Hay Muhammad Anas, Ward Councilors of Rajshahi City Corporation Muhammad Kamruzzaman, Advocate Nuruzzaman Tuku and Ashraful Haque and former chairman of Bagmara Upazila Parishad Jakirul Islam Santu, among others, addressed the meeting.

During his keynote presentation, Monawar Hossain, Project Manager of CAR-Program, illustrated the aims and objectives of the project and the meeting, while Subrata Kumar Paul moderated the discussion.

The speakers unanimously observed that all the existing Covid-19 responses should be reached to the marginal and other worst infected people properly to mitigate their livelihood related hardships, caused by the pandemic.

Various government and non-government entities are extending relief materials to the affected population besides health protective gear and equipment to the front-fighters since the pandemic began.

In this context, there is a need for close coordination and supervision by the government and non-government entities so that all the targeted people can derive total benefits of the Covid-19 responses properly for their wellbeing.

Various relevant issues like how to expedite the government stimulus package like cash allowance and safety net program and inclusion of all excluded groups in the program were discussed elaborately in the meeting.
