Saifuddin’s five-for dismisses Nazmul XI for 165 against Tamim XI

DHAKA, Oct 21, 2020 (BSS)—Pacer Mohammad Saifuddin came up with fire to haul a five-for as Nazmul XI was dismissed for 165 in 39.3 overs against Tamim XI in the sixth and last match of the group phase of BCB President’s Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

The match was reduced to a 41-over due to the rain that stopped the game for almost two hours. However the target for Tamim XI is now set for 164 as per D/L method.

The match turned out to be a virtual semifinal for Tamim Iqbal-led side, who must win the game to seal the final spot.

A defeat against Nazmul XI would eliminate Tamim XI from the race of the final straightway. No equation will be needed in case of Tamim XI’s defeat but a victory of the Tamim Iqbal-led side would mean that every three teams finish the group phase with two wins. In that case, net-run-rate will determine the two finalists of the tournament.

For Nazmul XI, Mushfiqur was the highest scorer with 51. Apart from Mushfiqur, Afif Hossain was the other notable scorer with 40 runs. Afif and Mushfiqur added 90-run for the fourth wicket stand, after Nazmul XI was reduced to a tricky 25-3 following skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s decision to bat first.

But when the partnership between the two was broken, Nazmul XI’s rest of the batting lineup felt like a pack of cards as they lost the last seven wickets for just 50 runs.

Saifuddin was the wrecker-in-chief with 5-26. He was ably supported by Mustafizur Rahman’s 3-26 and Mahedi Hasan’s 2-34.

Brief Score:

Nazmul XI 165 all out in 39.3 overs (Mushfiqur 51, Afif 40, Towhid Ridoy 13, Nasum Ahmed 12; Saifuddin 5-26, Mustafizur Rahman 3-36, Mahedi Hasan 2-34)
