Speaker for enhancing extensive awareness to prevent child marriage

DHAKA, Oct 20, 2020 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury today called for enhancing the extensive public awareness to
prevent the child marriage and ensure the health and well-being of
adolescent girls.

“It is possible to prevent child marriage and ensure the health and
wel-being of the adolescent girls with the collective efforts of
conscious guardians, society and teachers,” she said.

The speaker was addressing the ‘Online Awareness Campaign on
Reproductive Health Education and Prevention of Child Marriage’
organized by ‘Amader Ambassador, Amader Kanyaratna’ model as a special
initiative of the Panchagarh district administration in the ‘Mujib
Year’.

Noting that a healthy mother can give a healthy nation and today’s
healthy daughter is the healthy mother of future, Shirin Sharmin said
Panchagarh district administration’s reproductive health protection
and prevention of child marriage model will ensure overall development
of the Kanyaratnas (girl children).

The speaker called upon all to work together to ensure required
facilities, favorable and safe environment for physical and mental
growth of the adolescent girls.

Local lawmaker Md Mazaharul Hoque Prodhan, UNFPA Country
Representative Asa Britta Torkelsson, Panchagarh District Council
Chairman Md Anwar Sadat Samrat and Superintendent of Police Md Yousuf
Ali addressed the event as special guests with Deputy Commissioner
(DC) Dr Sabina Yeasmin in the chair.

Upazila Family Planning Officer Sabiha Kabir and Medical Officer
Sheikh Sadia Monowara Usha took part as specialist discussants.
