72,219 tube wells to be set up for safe water in rural areas: PM

SANGSAD BHABAN, July 4, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said setting up of 72,219 tube wells are underway to ensure safe drinking water in rural areas across the country.

“We have installed 42,451 tube wells for ensuring supplying of safe drinking water at rural areas across the country,” she said this, while responding to a starred question from treasury bench member Enamul Hoque of Rajshahi-4 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The Prime Minister said the government set up 16,415 tube wells for supplying safe drinking water under Rural Water Supply Project (Fifth Phase), adding, “26,036 tube wells have been installed under Special Rural Water Supply Project.”

The government is working to set up 52,021 tube wells across the country under the Priority Rural Water Supply Project, Sheikh Hasina informed the House.

She also said the government has been setting up 4,475 tube wells and constructing 6,250 improved latrines at Lalmonithar, Kurigram, Panchagar and Nilphamari districts under special importance of the former enclaves.

“Under Rural Area Water Supply Project, setting up for 15,723 tube wells and five ponds digging have been underway,” the Prime Minister added.
