DHAKA, Oct 17, 2020 (BSS) – The BCB President’s Cup is the platform
for the players to justify their capability to adapt to different
roles for the national team, said chief selector Minhajul Abdein
Nannu.

He said the players should emphasize on the tournament strongly as
the selectors have been keeping their performance under scrutiny.

A total of 48 players have been picked for the tournament, most of
which came from the national team but at the same time, the BCB picked
players from High Performance (HP) unit and selected members of the
2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup champion squad.

The BCB wants the young players to showcase their talent in the
tournament and bolster the pipeline. Some young players like Towhid
Ridoy, Irfan Shukku, Mahedi Hasan had already played some good knock,
which pleased the team management.

“This tournament is a platform for the young players as we want
performance from everyone and will justify in what positions they can
play. We are keeping them under our radar. The team management will
sit down to judge and decide where these players can be used according
to requirement,” Nannu said here today.

The tournament is also a platform to bring back cricket in the
country in a bigger way as the BCB wants to start International
cricket as early as possible. In January next year, West Indies will
tour in this country and so they want the players to be prepared for
the series by this tournament.

After this tournament, the BCB will also begin a T20 tournament in
mid November with five teams. More players will be given opportunity
to play the T20 tournament, said Nannu.

“Our pools of international players have been given priority in
this tournament and in next tournament you will see more players. We
will bring them step by step as the number of the players will be
increased. The next tournament will have five teams and player number
will increase. The players have been in individual practice so we can
bring in anyone as per requirement,” he added.
