Zaheed lauds PM for setting example in maintaining secularism


BARISHAL, Oct 17, 2020 (BSS)- State minister for water resources Zaheed Farooque today said that Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has set a unique example of secularism in Bangladesh.

“The way we people of different religions live together as friends in this country is rare in the world. It happened for the prudent leader PM Sheikh Hasina. We must maintain this sense of brotherhood. We are citizens of Bangladesh no matter what religion we belong to. We all have contributed to the development of Bangladesh,” he said.

Zaheed, also the Vice-President of Barishal District Awami League, stated this while addressing a function as the chief guest for distributing government grant rice in favor of Puja Mandap under Sadar Upazila here on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Referring to the government’s incentives, he said the government has given a lot of incentives during the corona virus.

“Even then, thinking of puja, the Prime Minister has announced to give 500 kilograms rice in each puja mandap. It has been given by the Prime Minister to share the joy of puja,” he added.

The state minister further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister, Bangladesh has become a middle income country today and would become upper middle income country by 2031.

He hoped that the country would become prosperous country in 2041.

“This is possible because we are all working together for the development of this country,” he continued.

Barisal Deputy Commissioner SM Aziar Rahman presided over the function while Barishal Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Munibur Rahman, Joint Convener of Mahanagar Jubo League Alhaj Mahamudul Haque Khan Mamun, Sadar Upazila Vice Chairman Mahabubur Rahman Madhu and Mahanagar Puja Celebration Committee President Narayan Chandra De Naru were present, among others, on the occasion.
